    eli's age = x

    (x + 8) + (4/7x + 8) = 38
    11/7x + 16 = 38
    11/7x = 22
    11x = 154
    x = 14

    six years later..
    tahli's age = 8 + 6 = 14 y.o
    eli's age = 14 + 6 = 20 y.o
